5 Summer Reads to Keep You Inspired

On Monday night, Vancouver had the honour of hosting none other than the extraordinary, the marvelous, Oprah Winfrey as she makes her way around Canada for her Your Path Made Clear tour. In honour of the book club queen herself, we’ve put together a list of five books that us provide with insights, both personally and professionally, that fuel our passion and guide our purpose.

A Man Called Ove, Fredrik Backman

This story is about a grumpy yet loveable man who finds his solitary world turned on its head when a boisterous young family moves in next door. A beautiful tale of unlikely friendship and acceptance, this heartwarming story will recharge the spirit and the mind.

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Deepak Chopra

The man needs little introduction, but we’ll give you one for this guru’s guide to fulfilling your dreams. Chopra’s teachings, freely inspired by Hinduist and spiritualistic concepts, encourage us to connect with ourselves and understand basic human nature to drive our success, rather than focus (or stress out) on hard work or precise plans. This book will bring you calm and inspiration to create whatever it is you desire in life.

A New Earth, Ekhart Tolle

In this follow up to Tolle’s highly popular The Power of Now, the renowned spiritual psychologist expands on his powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Let this book allow you to let go and lift yourself—and others—up.

Genre: Psychology

Focal Point, Brian Tracey

Many books claim the keys to success, happiness, and wellness require a convoluted set of specific steps to achieving such enlightenment—but not this book. Brian Tracey’s is a visionary guide to simplifying your life by focusing on the sole thing that will drive your purpose (in seven areas of your life), and is lauded by successful companies like Vancouver’s own Lululemon.
