We all work tirelessly to constantly assess and improve candidate experience - from the interview process, to the offer right through to onboarding. But what does the candidate actually care about? Do they notice the extra effort you’ve put into streamlining your interviews or building out their onboarding schedule?

Greenhouse Blog goes Inside the Mind of a Candidate with their latest panel and gives us some fascinating insight on what really matters to the candidate so that you can devote your time and energy to what really counts!

Here are their top insights:

  1. Branded Careers Page - Don’t worry all that money you’ve invested to make your careers page shiny and attractive it has not gone un-noticed. An out of date careers page sends off all kinds of red flags to candidates doing some research into your brand and its safe to say your competitors are going to one up you here if you don’t stay on top of it.

  2. Communication & Transparency - Its so easy to forget just how much effort a candidate goes to when applying and interviewing, so at the very least respecting their time needs to be of utmost importance. Even a quick text saying “no update today but I’ll be back in touch this week” will go a long way to keeping your candidate engaged and feeling respected.

  3. Proposed Long Term Value - Beyond the pay cheque how is your company contributing to something larger then itself?! (in other words, one of our FAVE topics here at Talent Lab - what is your purpose?) Another way to think about this is how are you supporting your employees in achieving their goals. Showcasing this to prospective employees is a huge value add.

  4. Structured Onboarding - According to SHRM’s recent onboarding report new employees that were provided with a structured onboarding experience were 69% more likely to remain with the company for more than three years. There you have it, that’s reason enough!
