Tell us what the Burrard Group's purpose is and what drew you to it?
Burrard’s purpose is to create engaging places that meaningfully improve the quality of life. I’m always drawn to mantras that are focused on streamlining experiences especially in a more visceral manner- there’s a certain magic about it that I find incredibly rewarding, seeing people derive value from something you’ve created at an emotional level. I’ve spent my career creating and developing virtual experiences so when the opportunity came to bridge that with the physical world I was excited to tackle the new medium head on.
How does it align with your vision for your life?
Burrard’s ultimate vision is a better urban experience for all. What an urban experience represents to me is people coming together and interacting with one another more. I regard relationships, whether it be your family or your neighbourhood baker, as the most valuable aspect of life and if through our residential, hospitality, commercial or F&B projects we can play our part in doing that, I’d feel very fulfilled.
What is the most exciting thing on the horizon for the Burrard Group?
It would be wrong to not mention NEXUS first, our 40-story condo tower set to be complete fall of 2019 in downtown Seattle. It will be an example of a high-rise that has many ground breaking technologies that solve day-to-day paint points as well as large amount of square footage allocated for public amenity space which includes its rooftop deck with fire-pits and outdoor kitchens.
What is one piece of career advice you would give your younger self?
Don’t underestimate the power of a great mentor and do more that scares you- some of life’s greatest offerings and growth opportunities lay on the other side of fear.
