Guess what the most highly trending personal characteristic in business is?

GRIT.

That's right, so let me boil this down for you; if your heart has been broken, if your parents split, if you have been bullied, if you have faced any type of trauma or loss, .... or basically have just been alive & living, chances are you have faced an obstacle, a challenge or some event that has required you to dig deep and build a level of resiliency.
Through this, SOME of us develop what is referred to as GRIT.

Grit is defined as: 'courage and resolve, a developed strength of character' and it is the NUMBER ONE characteristic that research shows predicts your chances of high performance and success.

Questions you can be asking yourself and your business:

  • How are we interviewing and looking for signs of grit in our recruitment practices? What questions are we asking to draw out signs of this trait?

  • How are we developing grit within our current workforce internally?

  • What do I do that shows signs of deep resiliency and grit?

Out of of all the research I have done on this topic, this article does a great job of breaking down the definition of grit into 5 distinct characteristic and gives a well rounded, digestible understanding of this under looked, highly important personal trait.
