WTF is Holding Space? If You Lead People, You Need To Know What This Means
3 MINUTE READ
I have shared an article before on Holding Space and unpacking what it means, and yet I keep coming back to this concept and wanting to provide the TL Community with a more in depth tangible definition every time I come across something that resonates.
In this article from Connor Beaton, Founder of ManTalks he shares:
“Holding space is the process of witnessing and validating someone else’s emotional state while simultaneously being present to your own.”
In the work place of today and the future, this skill is more important (in my opinion) than any university degree or designation you could ever obtain.
As HR professionals, business leaders and entrepreneurs, if you can not be with people, sit with them in discomfort, have the courageous conversations and allow someone to be right where they are (and not make them wrong for it), then your potential to transform your business and the people you lead is unfortunately limited.
Today, the game we are in is Transformation. Beautiful, painful, perfectly imperfect f’en Transformation.
