Take a Break From Whack-A-Mole
We all have busy lives at work, constantly inundated by emails and meetings. My coworkers joke that my job is like playing whack-a-mole: Since we are growing so quickly, every time I hire a new employee, another hiring need pops up. When things get crazy and the job postings start to pile up, it can be easy to become frustrated and lose motivation. Recruiting can start to feel a lot like just spreadsheets, metrics and costs.
Don’t get me wrong - I am a big believer in metrics. After all, what gets measured gets done!
What I am saying is that every now and then, take a moment to look up. As I sit here at my desk and see the happy faces of my coworkers, I can’t help but smile at the fact that I took part in bringing these people to O2E Brands. When I started with the company 3 years ago, we had 150 employees; in 3 short years, we have more than doubled to over 320!
For me, it’s a strange but exciting feeling knowing that the next resume I read or the stranger I interview could be our next superstar! A colleague once told me that I literally changed his life by reaching out to him on LinkedIn and introducing him to our company. I like to remind myself of that moment whenever I’m having a bad day. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I’ve brought the right people onto our team who are thriving and best of all, who love what they do!
So the next time you are feeling frustrated with your day meeting tons of people and working through another hundred job postings, simply take a moment to look up to remember the positive impact you have on your organization and the people around you!
